The State of Hannah Notes Moer.
POV: You're really trying to control the out of control state of your notes.
Ah, a university throwback.
Hello, and welcome to The State of Hannah Notes Moer. A state of the union on this little newsletter endeavour. If you’re wondering about my credentials to write a State of the Union, I just googled “How do presidents start the State of the Union” and I watched any and all West Wing episodes about the State of the Union. Supremely qualified.
Moving on.
Hey! Thanks so much for being here for this little newsletter. I started it in July 2022 while I was taking a month off of work. I had been thinking about it for months and months, and finally had the time and space to sit down and do it.
I thought, “Surely now that I have rested, I will be able to always send this on the 24th of every month.” Nope! Turned out to be super wrong. I was not very good at sending out newsletters on the 24th. So sorry about that.
This year, I’m hoping for less crying, more writing. Which means, not only do I want to get better at sending out these little newsletters, but also… doing a vibe shift?1 I just don’t want you to have to scroll for a million years to get through it. And I’m avoiding doing this because it feels like Too Much At Once. I’m hoping by splitting it into two, it feels less overwhelming for me to write and for you to read.
So, here’s what’s changing:
Moer [ESSAYS? GOALS? HABITS? LEARNINGS? ETC.] // I want to send just an essay on the 12th of every month. So that big scroller piece at the top of the first five notes I wrote? Moving to your inbox on the 12th of every month. (Except this month, where I sent it on… the 17th. We’re getting things together, pals.)
Moer Notes // I want to send an overall round up on the 24th of every month. This is the bottom half of my scroller emails: the Notes I Kept (a POV into my Notes folder / Notion databases, whaaaaa) and Notes From (focused on reading, watching, listening, things, etc.) sections. Maybe something else in there - if you have suggestions, I’m all ears.
I’m deeply grateful you trust me with a little space of your inbox - I don’t take that for granted. I’m not trying to be Up In Your Inbox all the time - but I want to write more, and I want to share those words with you, if you’ll have them.
Okay thanks, great, good chat. I’m off to Google “how does a president end a State of the Union” - the West Wing just let me know the pundits go at it after.
Did you think I was announcing a paid option? A different vibe shift. For right now, I’m keeping this little project free. If (this is a massive if) I can meet the send deadlines I, myself, set out for 6 months straight AND write an about page for this freaking newsletter, I might open up a paid option. (I do not have the requisite confidence in myself or my consistency to believe I can do that!)
